Sponge Boats

Simple and next to free bath toys to make e.g. in a hotel room:

All you need is sponges, straws, scissors and glue. Cut the boats and the sails into shapes, glue together, stick the mast through and set the sail. Done.

On the picture you can see what me and my kids did, I have seen other variations of sponge boats too. I got the idea first from a German magazine for parents called “Die Eltern” (which I love for their easy, free and fun little ideas for crafts).



  1. May I know can these boats float? Awesome idea!

    1. Yes, they float. We’ve done these in a hotel as an evening activity 🙂 But the glue we’ve used came at some point off in the water. Still, we managed to have a good time with the boats.

      1. Maybe hot glue gun works. Talking about that, I haven’t started using ever since I bought it months ago. Heard that it works well for crafts!

        1. A hot glue gun should work? Good idea!
          But maybe not quite as easy to take along if you plan to do these in a hotel room as we did originally 😉
