Upcycling Baby Food Jars

It is getting dark, so making something for candles was the obvious choice when the need to re-purpose old baby food jars arose. This despite having just made some but I just love candles in the Autumn darkness:

These are really easy to make: take finger paints and use your imagination.

One picture with light so you can see that we just painted the outside of them and then put small candles inside. I intend to get some wire too to make it possible to hang these lanterns up. Won’t they make nice little Christmas presents for the kids to give when visiting somebody in December?

I got the idea to make these from Teija in a Finnish facebook crafts group.

For more ideas on what to make with or for toddlers, please take a look at the page “crafts” – or just see search with the category.

  1. Awesome. I love recycling things, especially into fun crafts. And great idea for a Christmas present.

  2. That’s a really good one! (I’ll be trying to palm off peanut butter onto everyone now. Plastic jar, but should still work… I don’t buy many other things in jars these days.)

  3. Beautiful idea! That’s a creative way for decorations!

    1. I thought you’d like it! 🙂 With bigger kids adding ribbon or jewelry stickers may work too?

      1. That’s great ideas from you but who else?!
