Breather

I stopped riding the bike to work when the break on the bike started to freeze during the nights. The buses work well, but taking a crowded bus is not exactly relaxing. Instead I started to walk kids to daycare, and on the days my husband picks our kids up, I walk the first bit home before hopping on the bus. It feels like steeling time for me but between a social job and toddlers at home, I really enjoy the quiet moment in fresh air.

When my younger one was just a baby, napping only for 15-30min during the day, I had a habit of always sitting down with a cup of tea first thing when he fell asleep during his big sisters nap. If i didn’t do it immediately, there most likely was not another chance for the quiet so I let all the need-to-do’s wait.

For me, having a breather in a full day is important and helps me “recharge”. I also seem to always create those moments for me. Do you feel you need a breather on a regular basis? How do you do it?

  3. Yes, definitely the sit down with a cup of tea once nap time starts. But my eldest stopped napping before my youngest was born, so then I was in trouble. The only solution I found was to get someone else to watch them for a bit! My husband is good but his days can be long! It’s easier now with the eldest at school for a few hours a day.

    1. I introduced a “rest time” to my eldest when she finished sleeping during the day. She can take books to the bed where she can sit / lie and read quietly. First she didn’t like the idea too much but nowadays even she asks when it’s quiet time. I think she likes winding down. I certainly like those 20-30min 🙂

      1. Maybe I could have pushed harder on that front. My eldest wasn’t great at separating though. He was constantly underfoot!

        1. Kids are different, that’s for sure. And clearly you survived even without the tea break!

  4. I couldn’t agree more. I use to take an hour walk in the evening when the kids were young and I loved it. I would put my head phones on, snow boots (winter in Chicago) and just walk around the blocks. After an hour I would be ready for all the noise again…….Now I go for a 30 min run and it works just as well

    1. Yeah, I’ve been thinking that I should start running again, that makes wonders for the head!

  5. I totally agree. I take time for myself while z naps, often catching up on my blog reading. 🙂 also I just started going to yoga class 2-3 times a week. I feel refreshed and better about myself which makes me a better mom. 🙂

    1. Good for you! Btw, pilates is also amazing – for me pretty much the same effects as from yoga 🙂

      1. I have never tried, but have always worried that it would be too difficult for me. 🙂 I will have to try it maybe.

        1. If you can do yoga, you can do Pilates! The great thing about it that you can always do it on your own level.
