Best of This Blog This Year

Gallivance set a trend by listing the top 10 post based on stats and comments. I love their style and their travel blog, but as I am pretty new to the blogging world their top 10 included interesting posts I had missed. So I thought it was cool to see other blogging friends to do something similar; you may want to take a look at Bronwyn’s Pro-Retrospective with 5 most favourite posts, or Christy’s best blog posts (with a special nod to #5; 10 fun ourdoor activities for the kids on my behalf), Kate’s end of the year presenting the favourite posts on her blog (some of them will seriously crack you up, and some will bring tears to your eyes), and the first part looking back at the travelling year of And three to go (2 more coming up!).

I wasn’t about to do that, as I only started blogging last summer. But then I got curious about the stats too! So here we go:

1. Crafts with Ice Cream Sticks for kids

2. Handprint Crafts

3. Stockmann Christmas Window Display

4. Guest post: A Surf Bums Life in Van

5. Sustainable and Fun Christmas Calendars

… and as many of the other blogs who’ve done a similar retrospective look have a lot of travels in them, I’ll mention the 6th one too: The Must See’s of Finland.

One thing that made me happy, was to see the page Free in Helsinki has been found by many (no, I haven’t checked the all time stats before!), it was on third place. I started blogging wishing to offer alternatives and maybe this means that at least some have found them?

Happy New Year,

Vilma

  1. These are all great posts, I missed some of them before, so it was nice to catch up 🙂 And the ones I have read before I still remember them 🙂 HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU and your family! 🙂

    1. Thanks, to you too!

  2. Good idea! I may have to do that too!

    1. I wish I could take credit for the idea… but look forward to your best posts!

  3. Your all so organised I am feeling very hopeless! I really enjoy your blog and have even more need to scope out your part of the world now- thank you! I look forward to more in 2014.
    Happy New Year!!

    1. I wouldn’t really call myself organised, I just got curious myself when I saw what others did 🙂 But I like the way Gallivance did it by checking the comments as well, I think it does show more than just views. But it would also have required a bit more time…

    2. And I’ll have to keep doing this if it got you interested in checking out this part of the world too!

      1. Exactly!! 🙂

  4. […] at Free But Fun has joined in with her top five posts (plus a bonus sixth to balance the arts and crafts and the travel). Nice also to hear of her stats […]

  5. Sounds like you’re achieving your goal! Those are all great posts – I remember them. Glad to see the surf bum post has found its way in!

    1. I guess the ultimate goal is for me to have fun, and I’ve learned so much blogging that it is fun, but it does feel nice to see that others are finding some information too (however, you never know what everyone thinks about it… 🙂 ).

    2. Thanks for linking me up too!

  6. […] 2. Vilma from Free But Fun has many super simple craft ideas and shares good write-ups on Finland and other countries. She’s usually a good source for some of my craft ideas with the kids. Check out her Best 5 posts in “Best of this blog this year“. […]

  7. I’m so glad you did it cause there were several I hadn’t seen since I haven’t been following you all year! Happy new year!

    1. Thanks, and happy new year!

  9. Thanks for linking to my posts Vilma! It has truly been a joy getting to know you this past year. I hope your New Year is fantastic! 🙂

    1. Happy to, it is exciting to follow your travels now when it is not time for major travels for us. Hope you have another fantastic year too!

  10. Thanks so much Vilma for the link to our post. These review posts are always fun, and they always produce a few surprises. I’m sure that it’s getting close to fireworks time in Helsinki. Stay warm and have a fun New Year. ~James

    1. No worries, your post was inspirational! I really liked the way you also looked at the comments, gives more depth to the favs than just the amount of views. Next year I may get around to that too!
