Lovely and Cheap Metsäranta Campsite

After the disappointing campsite in Kangasniemi, we spent a couple of nights on a campsite 16 kms west of Jyväskylä. Again by a lake. This one was great! Everything was treated nicely, the staff was pleasant and there was a nice cafe with affordable prices too. Everything was also accessible by wheelchair. The kitchen building was old but the kitchen devices worked, everything was clean, and they were in the process of redoing the kitchen. There was a lovely playground and jetty, and this time they even had a squirrel that the staff had rescued when its mum drowned. The aim is to set the squirrel free but for now our kids were quite excited to get to feed a squirrel too! Also, even though it was freezing cold we actually swam in the lake!!! Possible for me due to the rental sauna (5e/hour). One night in a tent cost 6e/ adult, I didn’t check the price of the cabins

  2. This place is lovely! The water must have been really cold! 🙂

    1. I didn’t even want to know how cold it was…

  3. It looks lovely by the lake. If only we have such nice view and nice place to camp here. Most of our camping experience is marred by the damp grass and inadequate facilities.

    1. Next time you are over here, I know where to take you 🙂

  4. Gorgeous! And a sauna at a campground? Sign me up!

    1. It was a truly beautiful place!

  5. Love it! But now I really want to go camping!

    1. That’s not a bad thing!!! Next weekend off…?! 🙂

  6. The cold water/sauna combo sounds very Scandinavian 🙂 .

(I also note that apparently some things *are* good enough for you 😉 ).

    1. Ha, lucky there is no more need for the “Scandinavian swimming” anymore with a summer that finally has arrived 🙂

    2. Oh, and thanks, yes, most places are good enough for me 😉 some, like this, even way more enjoyable than “good enough”

  7. You’re very brave getting into that cold water! 🙂

    1. I think so too!
