We tried the new activity park (lähiliikuntapaikka) on Kolsarintie 13 in Konala, Helsinki, on the weekend. It is the cities answer to increase exercise among children, and with its climbing wall, rope and steel ladders, obstacle course, “Tarzan’s swing”, trampoline that could hold adults too even with shoes on, a yellow track on the ground for running on etc certainly invited our children to climb, jump, run, hang, swing and train the balance in many ways. As such, it offered us some variation to going to a normal playground on a sunny Autumn day. As it is next to the exercise park (liikuntapuisto) there was at least a soccer and basket ball field, ping pong tables as well as tennis courts right next to, so I suppose it could be a place for the whole family to do exercise in even if the adults would not be feeling playful enough to join the climbing frames with their children. However, the area itself could be more inviting: The activity park is tidy but the surroundings seem a bit rough. Maybe the surroundings are also still under construction?
The city opened similar activity and exercise parks in Lauttasaari and Munkkiniemi in June 2014 too.
If you are interested in exercise for the whole family, you may want to check out the family friendly track with gym equipment in Tali,or just head for one of the several outdoor gyms in Helsinki.
This looks like a place my kids will love!!!
Cool, when you visit Finland, we’ll go there together! 😉
I want a playground like this for us grown ups!
What a great idea, if at least some things would not have been built for shorter people, I would have been interested to play more!
I love parks! That one looks awesome!
It was pretty clever how the different things invited kids to try different activities and train various motorical skills – and I had fun too!
I would have loved that when I was a kid 🙂
It was pretty ok even as an adult 🙂
