Shops are closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday and Monday (small shops open on Monday for 4 hours) but there are quite a few things to do anyway:
- Via Crucis, the Bible based Easter play on the streets of Helsinki, starts on Good Friday at 9.30pm in Kaisaniemi park. The procession continues via the Bank of Finland to the main church where the crucifixion is played.
- The Easter fires that are more typically burned in Ostrobothnia (west coast of Finland) to scare of witches/ evil spirits are also lit in Seurasaari on Easter Saturday (4/4). The little fire is lit 6.30pm and the big one at 7pm. Kids are welcome to dress up as trulli (Easter witch).
- Easter Chicken (I believe real ones) can be seen in the Winter Garden and the Kaisaniemi Botanical Gardens
Haltiala farm is open Easter Friday – Monday 11am-6pm and have, among other animals apparently 81 lambs to be seen.
