My eldest turned 7 and had several wishes for birthday cakes. Also, she is wheat intolerant, and normally doesn’t really like to eat cakes, just the look of them. But I came up with solutions we both were very pleased with; simple and affordable and actually made by me.
#1 When celebrating with her friends, she wanted a pokemon theme. I made this pokeball cake out of pancakes, and for once the kids asked for seconds and finished the whole cake!
#2 When celebrating with family, my baby wished to have loads of berries, lollies and ice cream. And the pink topped doughnut she can never have. By accident I found a wheat free version (that was not free) of those and then just surrounded it with what she wanted. There was ice cream in another bowl. She was super happy to compile her own “cake”!
As for the guests, I simply had an other cake and they could also create their own portions. All happy! (I only thought of taking a picture the minute before the candles were lit so pardon for the real mess that comes with a happy family surrounding a birthday girl…)
