Luukki Lake and Walks, Espoo
A good destination for a daytrip; we had a lovely swim in the lake, invented water rugby, had picnic (but could have had lunch or coffees at the mannor too) and then did a 2,5km walk getting energy from the first ripe lingonberries on the way. There were options for much longer walks too. A […]

Daytrip to Kuusijärvi, Vantaa
Kuusijärvi is only a 15 minute drive away from us in Helsinki, a lovely spot all in all: great beach by a lake, playground, smoke saunas to rent, café, and a starting point for several walks in Sipoonkorpi nature park.

Water Park, Kotka
Worth a stop: pretty waterways, reasonable size for a descent little walk, pretty flowers and relatively real looking animal sculptures for kids to spot and rehearse their photographic skills on.

Haapsalu, Estonia
When we arrived by ferry in Tallinn, we immediately drove to Haapsalu. Haapsalu is less than 2 hours a way, even perfect for a weekend getaway. We were a bit surprised by the excellent condition of the roads in Estonia but heard that Estonia has put both tax and EU money into good use. We […]

Camping Holiday in Estonia
After the long hauls to Australia in March-April, we decided to explore Estonia, which is only 2 hours away on a ferry. We loved beautiful Estonia, there is so much more than Tallinns Old Town to it! Cost of the holiday This holiday cost us, a family of 4, about 500e, food, ferry (with car. […]

Angry Bird Playgrounds in Espoo
There are two, one in Oittaa and one in Leppävaara. We’ve only been to the one in Leppävaara. I am not a huge fan of the Angry birds but have to admit the playground is worth going to with kids: The climbing frame has “lifts”, small boards kids can stand on and get a ride […]

Board walks in Torronsuo
We had a lovely day out yesterday: we drove about 1,5 hrs north west from Helsinki to Torronsuo, a swamp a little south of Forssa. There they have built lovely board walks around and across the swamp, which are fun to walk on even for kids. There is also 200 metres of board walk to […]

Winter Holidays at Home
We decided to stay this holiday week home to enjoy Helsinki, outdoors, family and not too much programme. Unfortunately there is no snow but there are other options: Iceskating; always fun and a great way to catch up with friends. There are free time spots in the ice halls (Google Helsinki jäähallit yleisöluistelu) and it […]

Winter in Moomin World
Moomin World, so beloved by all small children, a bustling place in the summer. In the winterp the Moomins wake up from their winter sleep only for one week. It is the week of the “ski holidays” at school (yes, an ancient name of the school holiday), and it fits the stories rather well as […]

Kokoo – Great on a Rainy Day in Turku
Kokoo (meaning “contructs”), what a great place for the whole family on a grey day with sleet coming from the sky. It has a simple concept: go in and use the big supply of legos, and build! If you want to you can buy the Lego per kilo once you’ve built something but you don’t […]
