Blog Hop – Writing Processes

Christy at kidsrsimple.com invited me to join this blog hop about writing processes. She is a fulltime working mother residing in Singapore, and I enjoy her posts as she introduces many options for families in Singapore, has pretty organised ways to deal with the everyday life (and good tips) and also deals with raising multilingual […]

Saitama’s #1 free children’s centre? Ageo Kodomo-no-Shiro

Elle presents a great free but fun option for families in Saitama! To be honest, she has presented many great ideas, so if you are heading to Japan you may want to poke around her blog a bit more.

ABC – Life Saviour on the Rainy Road Trip

We are lucky, we finally set out on our camping trip across Finland when, after a promissing May, June turned out to be the coldest in 30 years. Not only that, it also started to rain the first evening, it poured heavily throughout the first night and according to the weather forecast it would continue […]

Heinäsaari Campsite in Heinola

When my daughter was born 4 years ago and I had plenty of time to Google while breastfeeding, I found a campsite in Heinola that looked lovely. Heinola is a small town about 1,5 hours northeast of Helsinki. The campsite is called Heinäsaari and is located on a tiny island in a lake pretty close […]

Korkeasaari, Helsinki Zoo

…is not free, the entrance fee is 12e for everyone who has turned 4 (but there is a family ticket too). But in my opinion it is one of the more affordable family day trip options in Helsinki, and the facilities are good. We have a tradition of going there about once a year, preferably […]

Camping on the island Kaunissaari, Helsinki (Sipoo)

Some may have noticed that I love the sea and the islands, I suppose growing up on or close to islands have something to do with it. Anyway, when we moved to Helsinki, we decided that every summer we’ll try to visit one island we haven’t been to before. Helsinki and the neighbouring city of […]

Outdoor Pools in Helsinki

There are two main outdoor pool areas (=maauimala) in Helsinki, one at the stadion and one in Kumpula. Both are affordable option for a warm day, kids are free until they turn 7 and a single ticket for an adult is 3,80e, which allows you to stay the whole they in the area. You’ll need a […]

Birthday Treasure Hunt

We had a problem in the fairy land on our daughter’s fourth birthday party: somebody stole all the lollies! Lucky that somebody had left jigsaw pieces around, and when they were put together (a joint effort, this mum actually struggled with dad’s drawing…), there was a map that showed the way to the treasure a.k.a. […]

Tourist in Your Own Town: Hard Work on Helsinki Day

Helsinki Day was a “hard day” at work for me (and it revealed a few pretty good tips for what to do for free in Helsinki too, therefore I have edited the headline to participate in Canadian Travel Bug’s Challenge ‘Tourist in Your Own Town‘. The theme for June is Festivals and Gatherings, so please […]

Helsinki Day – Daycare at Fire Station

How cool is that? Due to Helsinki Day there are free event and open doors all over the city TODAY, and because of that my kids and their whole daycare spend the whole morning at a fire station! Guess who had excited kids at home this morning!
